If I could give 6 stars, I would!

After hitting a deer en route to France at 01:45 (not the kind of travel memory we were hoping for), we found ourselves stranded with our car written off and a travel insurance policy that insisted they’d only cover “onward travel.” Gee, thanks.

Cue the next plot twist: Every major car hire company we called responded with some version of “computer says no,” claiming they needed 72 hours to arrange cross-border paperwork. Apparently spontaneity is frowned upon in car rental land.

Enter Abacus Car Hire — or as we now call them, the Avengers of Andover. My wife found them via a desperate Google search, and when she rang and explained our situation, a hero named Mark calmly said he’d “see what he could do” and promised to call back in 10 minutes.

True to his word (and now forever in our good books), Mark called back with good news: they could help, and the car would be ready that day — but we had to reach them before the 2pm Saturday closing. Cue frantic re-packing and a dash to Andover.

When we arrived, Mark, Steve and Tony were absolute legends — warm, efficient, kind, and somehow managed to make us laugh despite our post-deer, post-insurance, mid-holiday-meltdown vibes. They not only saved our trip, they made us feel human again.

The car? Spotless, reliable, and ran like a dream.
The deposit? Returned almost instantly.
Tony? Cheerfully waiting for us at 07:30 on a Sunday morning to receive the car back with a smile.

Honestly, Abacus Car Hire restored our faith in humanity (and holidays). If you’re ever in a jam, or just want to deal with lovely, competent people instead of faceless corporate nonsense, give these guys a call.

Excellent service and always very friendly.

We have hired a couple of vans from Abacus with the recent one being for a house move, I was upgraded to the next size which really helped . I was very pleased with the van supplied the service I received from Mark the rental adviser was exceptional !
I will definitely hire from them again.
